在大众高等教育时代，传统的大学应该坚守精英教育。精英乃是人格之完善者。完善人格体现了人类处境的有限性与其理想追求的无限性之间的张力。在科技高度发达的今天，物质世界的增值与人的世界的贬值，人的存在与本质的裂变和畸变显得尤为突出。而我国高等教育中的功利主义与工具取向过于突出，大学作为“社会之光”、“海上之灯塔”，其根本任务不是“制器”，而是“成人”。为此，大学应有必要的乌托邦精神，以对完善人格的不懈追求为己任，突显其应有的人文关怀与价值取向。 本文运用历史法、文献法和比较法，在阐明相关定义及肯定追求完善人格的大学理想的现实意义的基础，探寻了中西大学理想演变的历史轨迹，通过对历史的回顾及对现实的分析，认为当代完善人格的内涵主要包括：社会责任感，独立性和创造性，科学精神，生态价值观。针对完善人格的内涵，本文提出大学教育的相应对策，对大学教育中盛行的科学主义和功利主义予以有力回应。
In the era of mass higher education, traditional university should insist on its education of masters. A master is one owns consummate personality, which embodies the tension between the finite of human"s situation and the infinity in his pursuit .University, as the center for spiritual culture, whose ideal is just the unremitting pursuit of consummate personality, which is a necessary Utopia to university. With the method of history ^ comparison and document, this novel researches the historic trace of Chinese and Western university ideal. Based on that, this novel poses the content of nowadays consummate personality: social responsibility, independence and creation, scientific spirit and value of ecology, and discusses university how to educate the consummate personality. All that responds the scientism and utilitarianism in university effectively.
