Various support platforms of web-based education emerge as the times require. The virtual classroom takes constructivism as foundation and utilizes computer multimedia technology, network technology, modern communication technology and so on to structure a digital platform that supports web-based education, it offers a new organizational form for web-based teaching.The main study includes (?)esearching the virtual classroom"s definition, the constitution of web-based virtual classroom"s learning environments, structure of function, and the model of designing and developing. The content of the thesis includes four segments. The first part of the thesis describes the support platform of web-based education, and analyses the necessity to research virtual classroom. The second part defines and classifies the virtual classroom. It also describes the evolvement of virtual classroom. In the third part, we discuss the theoretical foundation of the virtual classroom and elements of building learning environments. Then we design the systematic functions of virtual classroom from three angles including teacher, student and administrator. In the same part, we also draws its function framework, and describes the process that teacher and student use the system. In the end, we summarize the model of designing and developing virtual classroom system. The fourth part of the thesis introduces the technique about developing some parts of the virtual classroom and its use.The characteristic of the work includes three parts: It defines the virtual classroom with the scientific method. It Regards traditional classroom as the prototype and designs the function structure of the virtual classroom based on the classroom teaching, making it a teaching platform that can implement all kinds of web-based courses. It develops the virtual classroom with the idea of low cost, low degree of difficulty and high efficiency. The work offers references and experiences for developing and popularizing various web-based platform.
