对于江南文化的研究，当前的学者多将目光集中在有唐一代，而对东晋南朝时期——这个对江南文化的发展具有转折意义的时期却没有给予足够的重视，仅有一些零散的、不成系统的分析与探讨。因此，本论文从横向层面通过对江南文学、江南山水以及江南女子这三个不同的角度对江南文化作一个比较系统的全面的描述和分析，以期使人们对江南有一个更为清晰的认识。 全文共分四部分： 引论部分主要阐明江南的定义及东晋南朝江南文化所包括的研究范围。一、从定义上来确定江南的地理文化范围，即长江下游以南地区。二、横向上分别从江南文化、江南山水、江南女子三个角度来说明其对中国文学的意义。 第一章文化江南。东晋南朝时期的文化对当时的中国具有中心文化的地位。对于东晋南朝文化具体分析，给予历史定位，说明其对中华文化传承所起的重要作用。东晋南朝文化首先离不开世族文化，世族文化对丰富江南文化的内涵，促进中华文化发展具有积极意义和深远影响。东晋南朝文化的一个显著特征是民间文学的繁荣，尤其是以南朝乐府为代表。 第二章山水江南。江南山水之美及对中国文学的影响。江南地区山清水秀，风景优美。东晋南朝时期，南渡的士人发现了江南山水的优美，从此江南山水开始成为中国文学的重要表现对象。江南山水的清旷灵秀催生了田园、山水诗的产生，也奠定了中国山水文化以“清”为主的审美取向。在江南山水受到关注的同时，与江南山水有关的江南物象大量进入中国文学中。与此同时，江南山水对中国文人心灵也产生了巨大的慰藉作用。 第三章佳丽江南。包括外在的容貌美，性情美以及才艺出众等方面的介绍。容貌美使江南女性进入中国诗歌中成为美女的代名词。性情美包括纵情任性的人格与缠绵执着的情怀两方面。纵情任性的个性指引了后来妇女冲破封建纲常、不畏强权争取自由的斗争。缠绵忠贞的爱情情怀直接影响了后来文人女性情结的产生。江南女性赖以出众的才艺成为文人的知音，也构成了成为中国文人文学创作的源泉。 通过以上论述，本文最后得出以下结论： 一、中国士人之所以对江南产生无比强烈的向往之情主要有三方面的原因：第一、江南地区有着浓厚的文化传统。第二，江南地区风景秀丽，有着疏远政治、快意自然的文化氛围，对现实中失意的文人可以起到一种精神慰藉作用。第三，江南女性美丽温柔，满足了中国文人心灵的需求，由此也构成了中国文人文学创作一大源泉。 二、中国文学主要表现的三大对象在这一时期得到了完型：山水、田园与女性。 三、东晋南朝江南文化对于丰富江南文化的内涵，开拓中国文学艺术表现手法、表现范围以及审美意境、促进中华文化发展具有积极意义和深远影响。 四、东晋南朝山水文化奠定了中国山水文化以“清”为主的审美取向。
