教学法的研究和发展，经历了漫长的历程。语法翻译教学法是一种古老的传统教学方法。随着时代的发展，教学目标的改进，语法翻译教学法也在不断地发展和变化。目前在高中英语教学中，语法翻译教学法仍然被广泛地运用着，对高中英语教学起着重要的作用。本文通过对传统的语法翻译教学法与当今盛行的交际法各自特点的比较，分析语法翻译教学法存在的原因、合理性、必要性、可行性。通过对新课程标准的解读，本文对语法翻译教学进行了新的思考，探索了语法翻译教学法在新课标的背景下实施的原则，进而探讨在新课程标准的背景下语法翻译教学法在具体教学中的策略与模式，强调在具体的遵循和运用这些策略和模式的过程中要根据新课标的要求不断地改进、发展和完善，结合教师自己所在学校的条件、层次和学生与班级特点，灵活运用，使语法翻译教学法在高中英语教学中最大限度地发挥作用。
The development and research of teaching methods have experienced a long history. Grammar-translation is a traditional and ancient teaching method. With the development of society and the changes of teaching objectives, it has been developed, improved, adjusted and restructured constantly. At present, Grammar-translation method is still being used widely and plays an important part in English teaching of our senior middle schools. This thesis compares the features between Grammar-translation method and Communicative Teaching Approach. At the same time it analyses the reasons and necessity for the use of the Grammar-translation method. In the context of the new curriculum for the English course of the senior middle schools, the writer reconsiders Grammar-translation method and explores the principles we must follow when we use Grammar-translation method. Then the thesis develops a set of teaching strategies and the related models that could be used flexibly according to the different conditions of our schools. It is the intention of this thesis to make this traditional teaching method contribute most to the English teaching of senior middle schools.
