萍乡煤矿是一座百年老矿,在中国近代矿业史上占有重要地位,1890年之前的萍乡煤矿的开采、经营处在一种无序的状态。张之洞创办汉阳铁厂,四处寻找可靠的煤焦资源。盛宣怀接管汉阳铁厂后,致力于开发萍乡煤矿,在人力、资金上予以大力扶持,分段修筑连通汉阳铁厂到萍乡的铁路。1908年,盛宣怀把汉阳铁厂、大冶铁矿、萍乡煤矿合并成一个超大型钢铁联合企业——汉冶萍公司,一江两岸三地的格局正式形成。萍矿也在官办、商办、官督商办的模式中苦苦探索,寻求生存发展之路。由于汉阳铁厂自身经营不善,向日本借款巨大,债务负担沉重等原因,加之政局动荡不安,萍乡煤矿反为之所累,走向衰落。
Ping Xiang Coal Mine is an old mine with a history of more than 100 years.It played an brilliant role in modern Chinese mineral history. Till 1890, Ping Xiang Coal Mine was in a confused state-both in exploiting and running. Then,Zhangzhidong had founded Han Yang Steel Plant,which needed coal urgently. The moment Shengxuanhuai had taken over Hang Yang Steel Plant, he did his bid to developed Ping Xiang Coal Mine by offering labors and sufficient fund. In addition, he built railways that connected Han Yang Steel Plant and Ping Xiang. In 1908, Shengxuanhuai integrated Han Yang Steel Plant,Da Ye Steel Plant,Ping Xiang CoalMine into a large united steel company--Hang Ye Ping Company across one rivertwo bands and three cities finally came into being. In order to find a way out, the managers of Ping Coal Mine tried state-owned , privately-owned, and united modes. Due to its bad management, heavy debt owed Japan, and chaos caused by special political situation at that time, Ping Coal Mine went weaker and weaker.
