As important design method of product, the technology of digital mock-up has been widely applied to manufacturing field. In the process of product development making use of digital mock-up, assembly-oriented CAD modeling technology are very important. The thesis addresses the theory and methods of assembly-oriented CAD modeling technology according to the characteristics of panels.A study of DFA (design for assembly) is presented. The running mode and system of DFA are discussed. The content of assembly modeling is provided. Assembly relationships, assembly hiberarchy and assembly restraints are analyzed. The assembly modeling methods of bottom-up and top-down are put forward. The author summarizes the characteristics of panels, investigates the modeling technology of free-form curve and surface; The algorithm of surface joining and surface blending is also analyzed.Assembly-oriented CAD modeling technology based on assembly modeling theory is analyzed and investigated in panels product design. The assembly model of panels is indicated. The general flow of assembly modeling of panels product is put forward. The key technology of Assembly-oriented CAD modeling in panels product design is analyzed. The application of assembly-oriented CAD modeling technology in reverse engineering is also presented; The assembly-oriented data measure method is put forward; The assembly-oriented surface reconstruction technology is analyzed.With the project "The Construction of digital mock-up for a mini-car" supported by an automobile corporation, Ltd. and the project " The Rapid Development and Variant Design of some brand of motorcycle" supported by a motorcycle corporation, the author summarizes the experience of assembly modeling for digital prototyping, and provides sound proof for the viewpoints in the thesis.
