社会主义生产目的是社会主义经济理论的基本问题，也是一个充满争议的问题，在本文中，作者通过对前人关于社会主义生产目的有关理论的整理和总结得出社会主义生产目的是社会福利最大化这一结论。围绕这一论点，本文又讨论了与社会主义生产目的密切相关的理论问题，如对社会主义的认识，社会主义优越性的体现，社会主义微观目的与宏观目的关系，福利经济学的一些基本理论等，目的是使社会福利最大化这一论断更加完善；最后文章考查了社会主义生产目的实现的路径即制度选择问题，并通过对几种典型制度的比较分析得出：社会主义为实现其生产目的，应选择混合经济制度。
The object of socialist production is the basic problem of the socialist economic theory, and there are lots of quarrels about it. The author draws a conclusion that the object of socialist production is to maximize the social welfare through arranging and summarizing the seniors theories about it in the article. The article also discusses relative questions in order to perfect it, such as the meaning of socialist, the reflection of socialist superiority, the relation of micro-object and the macro-object, the basic theories of welfare economics and so on. At last, the article discusses the path to realize the object, that is the choice of system, and reach a conclusion through comparing several typical systems: The socialist should build up the mixed economic system for realizing the object of socialist production.
