The concept of thoroughly separation of call control, bearer and service function is gradually introduced into the fixed network or mobile core network. Before the time that China formally launches the commercial usage of 3G system, many communication equipment producers are quickening their steps to the researching and developing of 3G systems. The core network of WCDMA, as one of the main systems of 3G, adopts the softswitch technology. In this dissertation is discussed the implementation of the softswitch technology, which is applied in the circuit switch field of WCDMA core network. Based on the researching of the software design of the softswitch system (MSC Server and WMG), is especially explored the media resources management module (MGR) in wireless media gateway (WMG). Firstly, the sotfswitch technology is introduced with following aspects: the basic theory of softswitch, the network architecture, the function principle of call server and media gateway, and the protocols mainly used in softswitch network. More emphasis is put on the BICC and H.248 protocols, which are mainly used in WCDMA core network. Then, the architecture of WCDMA core network is discussed, with the comparison of different releases of the network architecture (R99, R4 ) and analysis of the advantages of the R4 architecture in which the sotfswitch technology is used. After introduction of the all IP network solution, are investigated the software design of the MSC Server and wireless media gateway, and the cooperation of call control and bearer control in the basic call procedure. Along with the perfection of the network function, more and more kinds of media resources are introduced into the core network, which compels the WMG taking effective measurements to manage all of these media resources. So is explored the realization of MGR software module which takes responsibility of media resource management in WMG system. Considering distributed management structure much better for more kinds of bearer services than concentrated structure, the improved design of a new release is developed. In the end, are introduced the test methods and key test items in WCDMA mobile softswitch network.
