After reviewing the traditional methods of production planning, this paper firstly brought forward the concept of simple shop and complicated shop and analyzed the different production- organizing methods of them, then it discussed the advantages and disadvantages of MRP system, the possibility and the limitation of its application to the complicated shop, the main idea of Optimized Production Technology (OPT), and put forward the model of a MRP-OPT based j oh shop production planning and control system, in which MRP system is responsible for shop planning and control while OPT-based system for the planning and control of sub-shop. Based on this model, this paper discussed an example of a job shop production planning and control system used in JIR shop of DLRW by introducing the design thought, system structure, work flow and function of some software modules. Finally, this paper did some research on the software techniques involved in the system development and gave some suggestions on the system architecture, method of system development and database access method with Visual Basic based on the practices of the author.
